Deb Canham's Day Tote Class

Spending the day in Deb Canham's Online class sponsored by Sewingly Yours.  Using Facebook Live and it is a different way of doing things but I like it.  This class was scheduled at our store the last of March, 2020 and we all know what happened to the end of March!!

I used an HDMI cable and hooked the notebook computer to the TV.  Easier to see what she is doing on the big screen and the sound is much better also.

Here is a shot of my set up.    Computer on the desk with serger below the TV.

Here is part of the project on the serger.  I am doing straight line quilting using the chain stitch with decorative thread in the needle.

Here are the pieces and parts to put together tomorrow.

How do I get a file off a CD and into my embroidery machine??

Working at a local quilt store doing lots of embroidery, we get questions about how to get embroidery files from a CD into the embroidery machine.  I did a short video showing how to do this using your computer.

Video about the tools that come with the Baby Lock Triumph Serger

I am in the process of trying to finish up the Baby Lock certifications for sergers, quilting machines and embroidery machines.  If you work at a store, you can get access to videos that teach you about the machines. You must pass a test on each machine in each line (sergers, quilters and embroidery machines) and then you can get your Foundation Certification in each area.  I have completed all three of these and am working toward getting my Expert Certification in each area.

One of the things that you can do to get Expert Certification is to make a video teaching some aspect of that machine.  Here is the video that I did for the serger.

Solaris 2 and new Christmas Designs

There is a new Baby Lock Solaris 2 that just came out.  If you have a Solaris, you can purchase an upgrade kit to make your machine the same as the Solaris 2.  Right now, Sewingly Yours has 2 Solaris machines which have been upgraded to a Solaris 2.  You can get a great deal!

Here are some Christmas designs from the latest upgrade.

Martha Pullen Certifications

Starting in 2015 or so, I knew that I wanted to retire in the next few years and I wanted to go back to my roots of crafting and sewing.  Originally I received a Home Economics Education degree from UNC-Greensboro but could not find a job in teaching.  I ended up taking a temporary job at Pellcare - a nursing home in Walkertown.  It was Food Service Director and was just filling in for a maternity leave.  The lady decided that she did not want to come back so I ended up with a full-time job and just fell in love with it.  I worked in Food Service at a couple of nursing homes and went back to school for a computer science degree.  When I graduated, I was able to  move into the Business Office.  Since I had a baby, it was better schedule-wise.  No more working 7 days a week and early mornings to help with breakfast and late hours to finish supper!

I found an online class with Martha Pullen and signed up.  The first one was for beginning sewing.

Here are some of the projects that I had to complete.

A Rag Quilt

A Crazy Patch Pillow

A Quilted Pillow Sham

A Martha Pullen Tote

A Pullover Blouse and An A line Skirt ( blouse not shown)

A Madeira Table Runner

Serger threader

This is the handset gadget ever if you have trouble threading your machine. It is called a serger threader but it can be used on all sewing machines.  You will need to push the wire in from the back side of the needle and then put the thread in the wire in front of the needle. Pull the wire from the back and your needle will be threaded!    Sewingly Yours has a new supply of these. Get one while they last!

Bears in Eastern North Carolina

Very few people know that there is a large bear population in Eastern North Carolina.  Last summer, my husband and I spent a lot of time near Belhaven.  We would go out near dusk and see how many bears were out.  Sometimes we would find 20 or so and other days, just 1 or 2.  It would always thrill me to see any bear.

We found this one just across the canal from the road.  (about 20 feet away from us in the truck.) We watched him (or her) about 20 minutes.  She/he was not at all interested in us or getting away from us.  He sat down and ate, walked back and forth by the corn field and even stood up watching another truck that was coming down the road.

This one just ran out in front of us when we were driving down the road.

And there were 3 of these. One went into the woods before I could get my phone.  They were in the front yard of our house and we saw them as we were coming out the front door.  We think they are from last year when we had a momma and 2 cubs who destroyed our pear tree.  Now that was exciting!! (as long as I don't see them when I am in the yard!)  The picture is not really clear because it was taken through the storm door.  No, I wouldn't stand on the porch.

Until next time, Happy Sewing!!
